So a few days ago my darling Little Miss turned 2! I still can’t fathom that I have a kid, let alone a 2-year-old one, but so it is. The past week was busy prepping for her small party, and I’ve now learned that prepping for a small mostly family-only party is still a lot of work (albeit, much less than the huge one last year)! Maybe that’s why the hubby kept reminding me of my promise for a very small pizza party with only family this year, that clearly I reneged on. (“But she’s only turning two once!” “This will be her last year getting all the attention to herself!”) Yea, yea I know she won’t remember any of this, but wifey still wins out. Come on, was there any doubt?
All in all, it was a lovely little gathering with all of her favorite people – Grandmas and Grandpas, aunts and uncles and a few close friends. The very loose theme of this soiree was balloons, but mainly it just featured her favorite things. Little Miss was mostly excited to eat the chocolate covered pretzel rods I made, and while she oohed and ahhed over the my newly appointed annual rainbow cake as she watched it being made, she didn’t have a single bite. Instead, she had a ball dragging over every man in her life to the food table and asking for “mo’ fishies”, to which they no doubt capitulated – that girl must’ve eaten more Goldfish that day than her entire life combined! Here are some pics of the prep. I’ve decided to make the rainbow cake an annual thing because a) it’s pretty easy to make (this coming from a non-baker) b) kids love color and c) it’s so happy to look at, so why not?! Here’s the rainbow cake recipe I semi-used. (Pssst…if you’re short on time, or just lazy, you can use boxed cake mix, it’s not the end of the world.)
Things I Love About Two:
- She finds everything funny
- The smiles are as big as the hugs
- Everything is super exciting and wondrous (“Whoooooa!”)
- She remembers things from almost a month ago
- She never stops talking
Things That Have Me Terrified:
- The constant onslaught of “noooo!” and “miiiine”
- Potty training
- Dealing with a new sibling soon
- The improved memory (no more trying to “trick” her with fake promises, this girl has the memory of an elephant apparently)
So are the “Terrible Twos” really terrible, or just a myth? So far, it’s not so bad, but then again, we’re only a few days into it, so we’ll see… Happy Hump Day all!
