“Gone Girl” was my book club’s pick o’ the month, and damn, it was good. After struggling (and failing) to finish last month’s “On the Road”, this was a breath of fresh air. I know it’s been a bestseller and everyone’s talking about it, and now there’s a movie coming out, etc. etc. but I promise it’s all because it’s THAT good. If you’re looking for a thrilling page-turner of a book that you just can’t wait to go back to reading, this is the one for you. Filled with complex characters and enough twists and turns to make your head spin, it’s a quick read – and a good one at that. The basic synopsis is this: a man wakes up one day to discover his wife is missing…and that’s all you really need to know. Where the book goes from there was beyond my wildest imagination and it totally exceeded my expectations. The ending was divisive – some hated it, and some loved it. I ADORED it.
Apparently Reese Witherspoon is producing the film version, and perhaps star in it as well (although she wouldn’t be my first pick.) Other names being bandied about for the lead female role include Gwyneth Paltrow, Emily Blunt, Michelle Williams, and Rachel McAdams. Who do you see as the multifaceted Amy? Or the man with the d-bag face everyone wants to punch, Nick? (I’m picturing Michael Fassbender here.) Let me know!
Next book of the month: Where’d You Go Bernadette?
